Relationships and Behaviour

Behaviour at Northleaze Church of England Primary School

‘Let Your Light Shine’ – Matthew 5:16

At Northleaze, we believe that every child is uniquely created and valued. Our approach to behaviour is rooted in our Christian vision and values: Responsibility, Creativity, Respect, Compassion, Resilience, and Friendship. We aim to create a safe, nurturing environment where every child can flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our Golden Rules

At the heart of our behaviour ethos are three simple rules:

  • Be Ready – Come prepared to learn and participate.
  • Be Safe – Make choices that keep yourself and others safe.
  • Be Kind – Show respect, empathy, and care for everyone.

These rules guide daily life at Northleaze and help every child let their light shine.

Our Approach

  • Positive Relationships – We build strong, trusting relationships between staff and pupils.
  • Consistency and Calm – Adults model calm, consistent behaviour and use clear routines.
  • Teaching Expectations – We explicitly teach and reinforce positive behaviour through worship, class sessions, and daily interactions.
  • Zones of Regulation – We help children recognise and manage their emotions to support wellbeing and learning.

Rewards and Recognition

We celebrate positive behaviour through:

  • Verbal praise and positive feedback
  • Certificates and Values Stars in collective worship
  • House points and class rewards
  • Headteacher’s awards and special celebrations

Responding to Behaviour

When behaviour falls below expectations, we use a clear, stepped approach:

  • Gentle reminders and positive phrasing
  • Warnings and opportunities to make better choices
  • Reflection time and restorative conversations Our focus is always on helping children learn from their actions and move forward positively.

Working Together

We value strong partnerships with parents and carers. Communication is key to supporting every child’s success and wellbeing.
