Attendance
Every Day Matters
At Northleaze CofE Primary School, we believe that excellent attendance is one of the most important foundations for success. Children learn best when they are in school, on time, every day, enjoying the full range of opportunities that school life offers.
We want every child to feel happy, safe and valued, and we work closely with families to ensure that attendance remains a priority. Good attendance helps children to:
- Make strong academic progress
- Build positive friendships and relationships
- Develop confidence and resilience
- Feel part of the school community
- Establish good habits for later life
Even occasional absence can have an impact on learning. A child whose attendance falls below 90% is classed as persistently absent and can miss a significant amount of teaching over the course of their primary education.
How We Support Attendance
We recognise that there may be times when children and families need support. Our approach is to work in partnership with parents and carers to understand and remove any barriers to attendance wherever possible.
If you have concerns about your child's attendance, please contact the school office as soon as possible so that we can help.
Reporting an Absence
If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, please inform the school office before the start of the school day, giving a reason for the absence and an indication of when they may return.
Punctuality Matters Too
Arriving on time helps children settle quickly and ensures they do not miss important learning at the start of the day. We encourage all pupils to arrive ready to learn and make the most of every school day.
Attendance Policy
Our attendance procedures and expectations are set out in our Attendance Policy, which can be found on our Policies page.
