Year 4 Inter House Gymnastics Festival
On Wednesday 17th June 2015 we held our first inter house gymnastics competition with our lovely year 4 children. Working in their house groups, the morning was divided into 3 events; forward roll, vault and group routine with each event being scored by Mrs James, Mrs Lilley and Mrs Bishop. The forward rolls and vaults were each scored either 1, 2 or 3 marks and the group routine out of a maximum of 25.
It was a fantastic morning and we were really impressed with the children's behaviour and the amount of effort that they put in - especially those children that find gymnastics difficult. The children were also very supportive of each other, always applauding and saying supportive comments.
Here are the results with some of the judges comments for the group routine.
Brook 171 V. unusual. Loved use of space and chance for everyone to shine!
Brilliant - v happy team.
Yanley 159 Fantastic performance.
Loved the way you used whole space, very exciting routine.
Everyone looked very happy and worked well together.
Theynes 158 Really well organised.
Loved the way you designed the routine to take advantage of everyone's strengths.
Ashton 144 Really professional looking routine.
Coped well in adversity!
Very well organised.
Well done to Ashton who won the event! I would like to make a special mention of Sofia, Rose, Rosie and Carys who made wonderful house captains.
Year 6 Boys Kwik Cricket Festival
On Wednesday 3rd June 2015 a team of year 6 boys entered a kwik cricket tournament at Nailsea Cricket Club. As you can see from the photos we were very lucky with the weather and had a great day!
We started off in pool C where we had to play Grove A and Trinity. It was a very tense opening game against Grove A where we ended up needing 1 run from 1 ball. Ed didn't manage to hit the ball but, together with Harrison, managed to sprint for the 1 run that we needed! Northleaze won 266 - 265.
With a new found confidence the boys played brilliantly against Trinity winning 274 - 243.
We then faced a very strong Wrington team in the semi-final. The boys played really well, but lost the match 253 - 275.
Our final match was against Crockerne in a 3rd/4th place play off. With a bronze medal at stake, the boys played brilliantly and won 252 -197!
Thank you to Joel who became an honorary member of year 6 as they were a player short and well done to Jake for making big improvements with overarm bowling!
Our year 5 boys also entered a team into the year 5 competition. Mrs Jefferies said how well all of the boys played and gave Alex and Tom a special mention!
Thank you to the parents that helped with transport.
On Wednesday 20th May Year 5 had an athletics competition in their house groups. This was an opportunity for the children to put into practise all of the skills that they had learnt over the last term.
We started off with 3 laps of the field for our distance race. Congratulations to Bella and Issy who came 1st and 2nd for the girls and Tom and Alex who came 1st and 2nd for the boys. Well done Daisy L who won 5 bonus points for Yanley for putting in maximum effort on her last lap!
In the hurdle relay Theynes came 1st, Brook 2nd, Ashton 3rd and Yanley 4th. It was good to see some good clean baton changes.
Our final event was a 2 x 1 lap sprint. Each house put forward 4 runners to enter into this event. In the first race Theynes came 1st, Yanley 2nd, Ashton 3rd and Brook 4th. In the second race Brook came 1st, Ashton 2nd, Theynes 3rd and Yanley 4th. Well done to Danae and Max for a brilliant run in the 1st race and for having the energy to also enter the 2nd race as their house was short of competitors!
Well done to everyone for a great afternoon of athletics. Some of you really surprised us with your speed and determination! The scores have all been added up and here are the final finishing positions for the afternoon.
1st - Theynes
2nd - Brook
3rd - Ashton
4th - Yanley
On Wednesday 6th May 2015 five boys and five girls from year 4 went to Hutton Moor to take part in the North Somerset School's Dodecathlon event. The event was focussing on two of the Sainsbury's school games values of Teamwork and Honesty.
The children had a very busy morning competing in 12 different events;
Around the clock
Arrows - target
Arrows - clout
Toads in the hole
Everyone had a fantastic time and enjoyed trying out all of the different events. Well done to Will for amazing fencing skills and to the whole team for some brilliant kurling! Congratulations to Lewis for being awarded with a special sticker for displaying the school games value of honesty.
Thank you to Evie's dad and Isobel's mum for helping with transport!
Northleaze V Crockerne match report by Daisy F
They have great skills and always cheer for each other. Their passes are very accurate and their teamwork is great. They have scored some great goals. Everyone is really getting into the match. There have been some great saves by both goalkeepers. Then a quater of the way through there was a massive huddle next to Northleaze's goal. Then Harry comes in and does an amazing tackle. Tom does a huge kick, Harry heads it to Frazer. Tom and Harry work together and score again. Harry falls over, gets up and does not make a fuss and scores! Then Will rushes in, dribbles back to Crockerne's goal and scores. Northleaze win 10 - 0.
